Denise Fandel, MBA, CAE

Denise is the Executive Director of the Board of Certification, Inc. for the Athletic Trainer (BOC) a position she has held since she was hired by the BOC in 1997 to establish a national headquarters and full-time staff. Throughout her almost 30-year professional career she has served a volunteer in local, state and national organizations. In athletic training and credentialing she has experience as both a chief elected officer and chief staff officer. Denise served on the National Commission for Certifying Agencies from 2004-2010 where she served as Chair from 2007-2010. Most recently Denise served as Vice-Chair of the ICE Board in 2015.

Denise is President and CEO of BreakThru Boards and a consultant member of BoardSouce. Denise shares the organization’s mission “to inspire and support excellence in nonprofit governance and board and staff leadership.” She has experience facilitating groups in the areas of strategic planning, board development and staff organization and training as well as one-on-one work with CEOs and Executive Directors.


Cynthia C. Durley, M.Ed., MBA

Executive Director, Dental Assistant National Board and the DALE Foundation

Ms. Durley is Executive Director of both the DALE Foundation and the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). She has been employed by DANB for over 30 years and by the DALE Foundation since its incorporation in 2010. In her dual role of Executive Director to both DANB and the DALE Foundation, Ms. Durley provides leadership in organizational governance, fiscal accountability, short- and long-term strategic planning, and administrative, operations, and personnel management. She also promotes the respective missions of DANB and the DALE Foundation, and ensures that each organization’s interests are represented at the state and national levels.

Ms. Durley has held a number of leadership positions in national associations and organizations. She served as the National Commission for Certifying Agencies’ (NCCA’s) Co-Chair in 2002, and Chair in 2003 and 2004. She also served as President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President of ICE’s Board of Directors. In addition, she served on ICE’s Research and Development Committee as Co-Chair of the Benchmarking Best Practices in Certification Task Force, ICE’s Assessment-Based Certificate Program Accreditation Standards Task Force, and participated in planning for ICE’s CEO Summit and CEO Connect series. Ms. Durley is currently on the ICE Leadership Council, and the ICE Editorial Digest Committee. In addition, she has been active in the American Association of Dental Administrators (AADA) - the national association for administrative leaders of state dental boards and national and regional dental professional examining boards. She served as Secretary from 2012-2013, President-Elect from 2013-2014, President from 2014-2015, and concluded her final executive committee term as Immediate Past President in October 2016.
