Chapter 5 covers Basic Psychometric Principles. Its purpose is to discuss the basic psychometric principles relevant to certification testing. Although the focus and primary principles discussed are validity and reliability, there are a number of measurement terms that will also be discussed in relation to reliability and validity. A secondary purpose will be to provide an overview of two models of measurement, classical measurement theory and item response theory, and their relationship to reliability and validity.
