In this webcast, the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) staff and volunteers will share their experiences with developing a rigorous continued competency program that embraces lifelong learning. Gain insight into the development and implementation of a Continued Professional Certification (CPC) program for one of the advanced practice nursing roles. The NBCRNA team will:
- Describe the evolution of credentialing for nurse anesthetists
- Highlight the challenges associated with change in a profession
- Identify the CPC Program components
About the Presenters
Charles Vacchiano, PhD, CRNA is the President for NBCRNA. Dr. Vacchiano earned a BSN at Wright State University (OH) in 1979, a Bachelor of Science in Anesthesia from George Washington University in 1984, and a PhD in Physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1995. He spent 26 years in the U.S. Navy as a practicing nurse anesthetist, educator, and researcher. Currently Dr. Vacchiano is a member of the Duke University School of Nursing, Nurse Anesthesia Program faculty and has been a member of the NBCRNA Board of Directors since October 2009.
Edward Waters, DNP, CRNA is the Vice President for NBCRNA. Dr. Waters practices clinical anesthesia at the Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center and he is a faculty member of the Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia in Pasadena. He holds degrees in nursing from St. Louis University and UCLA, completed his anesthesia training at the Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia and received his DNP from the University of Colorado. Dr. Waters has been a member of the NBCRNA Board of Directors since October 2010, prior to his election to the board, he served on the National Certification Examination Committee.
Steve Wooden, DNP, CRNA is the Secretary-Treasurer for NBCRNA. Dr. Wooden is managing partner of Boone County Anesthesia Services, LLC, a private practice anesthesia group in East Central Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Nursing, the University of Nebraska Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Program, Kansas University Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Master’s program, and Duke University DNP program. Dr. Wooden has been in private clinical anesthesia practice since 1982 and has been a member of the NBCRNA Board of Directors since October 2010.
