For those organizations meeting credentialing accreditation standards (NCCA, ISO, ASTM), the need to identify and closely manage vendors is significant as clear expectations and close partnerships are required. While there are clear benefits to outsourcing, organizations should not overlook the value gained from cross-training resources to develop a stronger bench of talent internally. Setting up an ecosystem that includes a healthy mix of in-house talent supplemented by outside vendors can result in higher returns to the organization in the long-term.

Sierra Hampton-Simmons has over 15 years of leadership experience within the exam development/management arena.  She joined PMI as the Manager, Certification Exams in the Fall of 2013. At PMI Sierra is responsible for leading all technical aspects of creating exams and associated processes for all credentials including the PMP credential-the gold standard in Project Management.  Immediately prior to joining PMI, Sierra was the Manager, Certification Operations at Cisco Systems, Inc.   There she was responsible for directing the daily operations for the development of exams for their leading IT certification programs including the world class CCNA and CCNP exams. Additionally, she managed internal staff and vendors in an effort to make changes to various processes and standards related to Cisco’s ANSI accreditation. Prior to Cisco, Sierra had an extensive career with Citrix Education for more than 12 years. In her last role at Citrix, Sierra was the Manager, Learning Design and Development where she managed a team in design and development of the most advanced curricula and certifications for Citrix Education.  Additionally, Sierra served as Citrix’s Manager, Exam Development where she directed the daily operations in development of high-stakes exams for global commercial IT certification programs. Sierra served as the President of the Performance Testing Council in 2012 after serving for years on their Board of Directors. Her passion for performance-based testing can be seen in the innovative testing initiatives adopted by Citrix during her tenure there. Sierra is a graduate of Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in Japanese and International Business and is pursuing her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Florida.

Nathalie Collautt joined Project Management Institute (PMI) in March of 2004. During her career with PMI she held various positions in Finance, Membership, and Certification areas. Her current position is Certification Compliance Manager. In this role she is responsible for compliance to ISO 9001 – “Quality Management System” and ISO 17024 “Conformity assessment — General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons“.  

Prior to joining PMI, Ms. Collautt worked as a consultant in the areas of Strategic Enterprise Management, Vendor Management, and Supply Chain Management. Ms. Collautt has managed a number of strategic multi-national projects and worked in the USA, Latin America, and EMEA. Ms. Collautt has two Master Degrees (Computer Science and Engineering). She is also certified Quality Management System Auditor / ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor (IRCA).  Ms. Collautt is a member of ANSI International Conformity Assessment Committee (ICAC) and currently serves as volunteer on ISO Work Group 42 on the updates to International Standards for Accreditation Bodies.
