Credential Classification

What type of credentialing program do you offer? Misclassifying a program can lead to confusion among stakeholders, misalignment with industry standards, and barriers to accreditation—resulting in costly corrections. Hear an overview of the primary credential classifications to help you understand how to structure your program to best serve your target audience and their needs.

  • Compare and contrast certifications, assessment-based certificates (ABCs), certificate programs, and microcredentials.
  • Clarify the distinctions between certification and ABC programs.
  • Identify overlapping design characteristics among the  credential types.
  • Explore how to design ABC programs to maintain a firewall from NCCA-accredited certification programs.
  • Leverage ABC programs within pre- and post-certification pathways.

The ABCs of ABC Design

So, you have a certificate program—but does it meet the Standards to be called an assessment-based certificate (ABC) program? Walk you through the process of designing an ABC program that meets ACAP (ICE 1100) accreditation standards.

  • Utilize backward design to develop an ABC program.

  • Establish clear connections between needs analysis or JTA, education/training, and assessment.
