Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

In September of 2021, the I.C.E. Board of Directors approved a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion statement prepared by the DE&I Committee in accordance with the I.C.E. Strategic Ends Statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The statement was developed specifically with I.C.E. and the credentialing community in mind.

I.C.E.'s DE&I Statement

The Institute for Credentialing Excellence values diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels of the organization. I.C.E. defines diversity to include traditional notions of diversity (age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, disability, appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity, personality type), as well as:

• Cultural Identities
• Geographic Bias (Citizenship)
• Multi-generational Factors
• Gender Expression and Identity
• Disability (Visible and Invisible)
• Societal Attributes (Inclusive of Personal Presentation & Self-Expression)

We welcome and respect the unique perspectives, opinions and experiences of each I.C.E. member, as this is a pillar of our ability to serve our stakeholders. We commit to working towards removing barriers, internally and externally, to achieve true diversity, equity and inclusion for the professional credentialing community.

DE&I Coffee Chats

Research

The I.C.E. DE&I Committee is proud to share the findings from its comprehensive DE&I research initiative. Originally conducted and analyzed in 2023, compiled in 2024, and updated in 2025, the report now includes additional insights—featuring an interview on how organizations with smaller staff resources and modest budgets can still achieve meaningful DE&I impact.

Key questions explored include:

  • Are credentialing bodies adopting DE&I practices?
  • In which areas are these efforts being implemented—and to what extent?
  • What benefits are organizations realizing from these initiatives?

Based on a survey of member organizations conducted in spring 2023, the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.) gathered responses from representatives of 86 credentialing bodies. The findings provide a valuable snapshot of both current and planned DE&I practices across the profession which I.C.E. has illustarted in an infographic and report.

Relevant Committee Resources

In response to member requests, I.C.E. is sharing resources used by our DE&I Committee as it launched its initiatives within the organization. These resources are provided to inspire your work, support implementation in your own organization, or serve as a starting point for developing new ideas.

This is not an exhaustive list, but rather a curated selection of materials that have proven useful in guiding the DE&I Committee’s journey toward creating relevant programs and opportunities for members to engage with DE&I concepts.

Stay Connected:
We update this resource list periodically, so check back for new additions. We also welcome your input—please share any resources you’ve found valuable or think we should explore.

As a way of highlighting resources that member organizations create which might help or inspire other organizations, BCSP has given permission for I.C.E. to host this video the organization created to speak to the importance of DE&I.

The pandemic accelerated the need for change. Change meant more than adapting to a new way of working; it meant thinking about how we support and show up for one another.

We took a step back, and that became our springboard forward. BCSP’s DE&I committee was formed to explore and learn, educate, and respond to the diversity of the human experience. The committee built the foundation with full leadership support, creating an inclusive, culturally competent, and supportive environment where management and employees model behaviors that enrich our workplace. That work took root and manifested into our new core values.
